FREE ROMAN POLANSKI
this is my song-
If I could picket the world right now, I would.
If I could promise you that the adventure would be fun-
I would do that too.
Baby, I'm finally gonna pay that ticket today. Even though I don't want to. Don't want to step on another bus. Ride it into somewhere that I don't want to be.

no notes
I may be getting a job at the UN, no joke. I find out on Monday. Even if I don't get it, I'm excited to get into the building and look around.
I don't think I've been there since I was a little kid, maybe not even then. Maybe it's just a place I wish I had visited as a child.

thanks for this, maxwell

mountain sides
The whole world smelled like garbage today. But besides that everything was ok and the weather is getting better. My neck doesn't sweat as much while I am sleeping.
These are photographs from PA.
I visited Jody in the mountains and had the best time. He escorted me to the first wedding I have ever been to. After hours of drinking at the reception, I went to a casino and lost $10 on a digitized slot machine. Then the next day, hungover, we walked through the wet woods.
It looked like the Emerald City
There were thousands of these guys

monkeytown
Monkeytown has to be the worst venue in Brooklyn. I showed up late and sat in the corner. A balding man was eating the worst smelling mini hamburgers and foie gras. It was gross.
Later I was drinking mezcal and dos equis. Today I'm kinda down.
Someone! Help me with indexhibit, please.
I'm trying to piece together a website. Slow it goes.
I dug through my external hard drive and found some movies of a road trip to Florida and when I first moved to New York. This is that.

email to my momma

i dont have to respond to ridiculous emails anymore or have someone call me retarded at 9:30 in the morning.
it's a good thing that DP deleted my email account because i probably would have made a book out of the trash those people sent to me in the past month.
on the positive, I got to meet J Mascis and fan out in front of him.
so long for now, powerhouse.

TERRIBLE
I'm off to the post office to mail a ton of letters. I am sorry if you are late getting what you didn't know you had coming to you.
-----
I worked at Book Expo America last weekend and it was pretty wonderful. Even though most things were free, it was mostly free garbage. In response, I stole liberally from the MoMA, TeNeues, New York Review of Books, and Penguin booths. I was working in the Children's / Young Adult section at a non-profit booth stationed right next to Highlights magazine. All the highlights salesmen were old men with wrinkly owl eyes. One offered to take me to his cabin the woods in Pennsylvania.
Tonight I will be volunteering at the Brooklyn International Film Festival at Powerhouse. Come visit me, please.
I am also dropping off my finished zine retitled 'things' at Printed Matter and ABC No Rio very very soon. I think it will be $3, you can also just ask me for one and I will give it to you.

henry clay
falling behind.

Thanks to some encouragement from Gina, I'm gonna make another zine: the next one is gonna be about American Civil War portraits and US statesmen from the early-mid 1800's. I want to compare the photographs with paintings:
Henry Clay

According to his wikipedia article: "Henry Clay, Sr. (April 12, 1777 – June 29, 1852) was a nineteenth-century American statesman and orator who represented Kentucky in both the House of Representatives and Senate. He served as Secretary of State from 1825 to 1829."
other things and recent events:

eating a klondike bar in the shower
treehouses of the world
sitting in the park, workin' on a even tan
fighting

atreyu
I'm still recovering from Friday night, the first time I went out in weeks. Saw Dan Deacon Ensemble and danced until my feet got bloody and then took my clothes off. Cammisa told me some girl said she wanted to punch me in the face. I couldn't hear her say that and just so I smiled and kept dancing.
There are pictures somewhere that I'm curious to find.
*****
I lost my favorite sweatshirt in the fucking computer lab (either 3rd or 4th floor). It is blue and smells terrible: like old spice, pastels, and spilled miso soup. Please contact me if you find it.
i feel like a dead battery without it

I am back to the lab for what I hope is the last time. No more speed, strictly tea.

I am almost done with school (forever/ or for a very long time).
I am presenting my senior work on Wednesday! I have class up until the 18th which is my web design final presentation and radio documentary presentation.

Between essays, sound editing, printing and css coding, I've been working on my half of me and Monica's setlist for my SUMMERTTIME (no)BLUES PARTY/ FESTIVAL. The party has had too many names, but what to know is that it is on Saturday the 23rd and goes from 1pm until Sunday afternoon.
We already have something like 10 bands playing, mostly noise bands in the backyard starting Saturday afternoon, then when we start up again around 8 or 9 it will be in the basement.
My house is gonna fall down.

Monica and I wanted to break up the BK-centricity and all the noise, so we will be paying our respects to the dirty bits we came from---> MIA and ATL respectively. The setlist is gonna be heavy on southern rap throwbacks and dub (because its summertime.) I won't be saying anything else about it, but here is a preview of some jamz:
can't decide between this and "Chickenhead"
Hello tubetops.
"like Nermal from Garfield, you're kitten me"

job applications
Because of all the things happening here lately I think I deserve to leave Brooklyn soon. I want to see California from the driver's seat of a car. And probably because it goes against everything I am thinking, I started applying for real jobs in and around New York for the summer.
planning coverletters and submissions to:
Brooklyn Rail
National Geographic
Capricious
Creative Time
Harvest Works
freewilliamsburg
ETCETCETC
I also want to start volunteering at the Lower East Side Print Shop in May.
Saturday I'm leaving Brooklyn and going upstate. No matter what.

sparks on the tracks
I am worried about graduation and how much is going on, but also how much isn't going on. I don't remember the last time I felt like I accomplished something.
Senior thesis work needs to get done. Get started, really. I am making a book out of collected bits of the summer. I am learning more about watercolors and guasch over xeroxes.
It is raining outside right now and I want to stay here and listen to the cars driving on the wet road outside my window. Or watch the sparks on the tracks as the trains goes by the other side of the station.
I don't want to respond to a certain professor's rude emails about why I didn't come to class. I didn't go because I didn't go. I never got the chance to watch Céline and Julie Go Boating on account of all the nonsense that's been happening lately.

E is the most forgettable letter.

singing islands
What is a singing island?
A name taken mostly from Phil Elverum's (The Microphones) Song Islands album.
It is also a piece of a Korewori proverb I read in my favorite section of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The New Galleries for Oceanic Art is behind Egypt, and also faces Central Park. It is filled with wooden canoes, shields, and statues of primordial ancestors from Polynesia, Micronesia, and Papua New Guinea. All of the bodies of the statues are tall and thin, filled with holes, and covered with mythological animals and painted abstract designs. I am going to try and go back this week and find the quote I read about the 'songs of the islands' and take pictures of the ceiling. The center of the ceiling is covered with a tide of wooden panels that were once part of a ceremonial house.

Canoe Prow
19th–early 20th century
Middle Sepik, Iatmul
Papua New Guinea, Middle Sepik River
Wood, cowrie shells
L: 71 1/2 in. (181.6 cm)
The Michael C. Rockefeller Memorial Collection, Purchase, Nelson A. Rockefeller Gift, 1955
1978.412.705
"Crocodiles play a central role in the art and culture of the Iatmul people. According to one Iatmul creation account, an ancestral crocodile was responsible for forming the land. In the beginning, the earth was covered by a primordial ocean, into whose depths the crocodile dived. Reaching the bottom, it brought up on its back a load of mud, which became an island when it surfaced. From that island, the land grew and hardened, but it continues to rest on the back of the ancestral crocodile, which occasionally moves, causing earthquakes. Both now and in the past, the prows of most sizeable canoes are carved, as here, in the form of a crocodile. The scale of the present work indicates that it probably adorned a large war canoe, capable of holding from fifteen to twentyfive men. These large canoes, hollowed from a single massive log, were also used for trading and fishing expeditions. Although canoes are no longer used in warfare, contemporary Iatmul carvers continue to make large examples for use in trade and general transportation."
It could also be a moment like lighting a cigarette from a stove burner while it is still in your mouth and simultaneously catching your hair on fire and then laughing about it with your neighbor who did the same thing.
Now you're gone, I won't fall, fall in the fire
Oh no, I am lacking, I want what I see
